I'm curious as to what kind of performance the Sheevaplug has when running as a Squid proxy. As a comparison I installed Squid on my SPARC based ReadyNAS and things slowed down noticeably. Does the same occur on the plug?

P.S. there's now a product called pogoplug that's a bit easier to get your
hands around for simple things.

It's basically the same stuff with some more window dressing on it.
It's set up to be a home media server by default, but still is an open platform with
all the open source goodness.

Sheevaplug is really a developers platform meant for reference/hacking.
So that's why it's a little more work.

<a href="http://www.plugcomputer.org" rel="nofollow">http://www.plugcomputer.org</a> has lot's of information about this.

Wow. Thats a lot of configuring, but it may be just what I'm looking for. I need a server to serve the same functions as you. Paying only $99 and using only minimal power is something I can get behind and spend a little time with. I had never even heard of this. Cool stuff!
