silly email disclaimer from NH Governor’s office

Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

A coworker used the NH.gov webform to send a comment to Craig Benson, NH Governer.

Check out this disclaimer that was at the end of the response.

Any use is strictly prohibited? No printing?! Doesn’t is seem a bit excessive since this is coming from a government employee?

agenda.

Happy Birthday Baby Mithras!

Thursday, December 25th, 2003

Today is the birthday of Mithras the Sun God!

But the actual choice of December 25 for Christmas was made under the
Emperor Aurelian because this was the date of the Winter Solstice and
was the day devotees of Mithras celebrated the dies natalis solis
invicti (birthday of the invincible sun).

Mithraism, like Christianity, offers salvation to its adherents.
Mithras was born into the world to save humanity from evil. Both
figures ascended in human form, Mithras to wield the sun chariot,
Christ to Heaven. The following summarizes the aspects of Mithraism
that are also found in Christianity.

“Mithras, the sun-god, was born of a virgin in a cave on December 25,
and worshipped on Sunday, the day of the conquering sun. He was a
savior-god who rivaled Jesus in popularity. He died and was
resurrected in order to become a messenger god, an intermediary
between man and the good god of light, and the leader of the forces of
righteousness against the dark forces of the god evil.”

The great festival of the Mithraic calendar was held on December the 25th, and
the 16th of every month was kept holy to Mithras.

LOTR: Return of the King

Amazing sweeping battle scenes, but if you are a Tolkien purist, you’ll hate it

I saw the 8:40-12m showing last night and it was a pretty full theater.

Dismantling of the Sand Mandala of the monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery

Sunday, November 23rd, 2003

This afternoon we all went to Nashua North High School to watch the
dismantling of the sand Mandala representing Compassion. After about
25 minutes of overtone chanting (beautiful and impossible to describe)
to mark the beginning of the ceremony the head monk gave some
background on Buddist beliefs, Tibetan culture and thanked everyone
involved. Then rather quickly the sand mandala which took four days
to create was swept up and then marched down the the river and
dispersed onto the water. The idea is the compassion embodied by the
art will be carried by the water to everyone who needs it in the
world.

Matrix: Reloaded == Wrath of Khan / Matrix: Revolutions == Whales

Thursday, November 6th, 2003

It is 12:01am and I just got back from a showing of Matrix
Revolutions
and wanted to rave about it. While the special
effects were outstanding the movie wasn’t satisfying. There wasn’t
enough explanation of why it ended the way it did and what, if
anything, was the next step.

If Matrix Reloaded is Wrath of Khan, Matrix
Revolutions
is more like the one with the whales. Nice to see
everyone again with their new toys, but it doesn’t give the thrill you
were expecting.

This NPR station having a fun-raiser? Time to switch to another NPR station…

Thursday, May 1st, 2003

Another advantage of living in New England with its relatively small
states is being able to listen to any of three public radio stations.

Last week WBUR had their fund
raiser, this week is it NHPR (aka
WEVO) is having theirs. Perhaps href="http://www.wgbh.org">WGBH will be having theirs next week…

Yes, I’ve donated to NHPR, but that doesn’t mean I want to miss the
programming…

I’ve been driving by this poster for over a decade and finally got
around to taking a photo of it. It is at the corner of Daniel Webster
